Understanding Safety Standards for Industrial Gas Detection Instruments

When selecting industrial gas detection equipment that’s right for your needs, it’s important to assess safety certifications. There are many certifications that instruments receive, so how do you know which is the most applicable in your industry? Read on to learn more about the safety standards and certifications that Buckeye’s instruments hold and what they mean.

CSA Approvals

The CSA group is globally known for developing safety standards, and its stamp of approval is essential. In North America, CSA Group assesses products in classes and divisions when determining certifications for hazardous locations. The BDS-50 from Buckeye Detection Systems is CSA certified for Class 1, Division 1 explosion-proof installations. Essentially, this certification recognizes that the BDS-50 is certified to operate in locations where flammable gases and vapors are present in quantities that could produce an explosion. Additionally, Division 1 means that the BDS-50 is certified to detect hazards in locations where one is likely to occur.

Group Classifications

In addition to classes and divisions, industrial gas detection equipment is also certified into groups. The BDS-50 is also certified in Groups A, B, C, and D in the National Electrical Code (NEC). These groups are classified based on certain gases and vapors that an instrument is certified to detect and the conditions an instrument is designed to work.
